Moving ahead with our major projects

The Metropolitan Line Extension and Watford Health Campus projects are full steam ahead, with works gathering pace this spring. Unfortunately, as a result there will be some disruption on the roads but please bear with us, Watford remains open for business.

Transport for London (TfL) is building a new viaduct over Baldwins Lane as part of the Metropolitan Line Extension (MLX). Before they can do this, the various utility companies need to divert existing gas, water, electric and communication services. This will involve some traffic management around Baldwins Lane and the A412 Watford Road.

  • Weekdays (from 9.30am to 4pm) and weekends (all day): Single eastbound lane closure on the Watford Road roundabout and Baldwins Lane approach and Watford Road exit.
  • Weekdays (from 9.30am to 4pm): Single lane working on Baldwins Lane managed by stop/go signage.

The work will be phased from Saturday 27 February for up to six months. As part of the work TfL will also need to suspend parking on the eastbound carriageway of Baldwins Lane, along with the closure of the footway. Some tree clearance on the railway embankment on either side of Baldwin Lane will also start from 29 February for about three weeks.

The next phase of the Watford Health Campus road will see new island construction, new kerbing, street lighting and signage be installed. To minimise further disruption to the local community and businesses, this work is planned to take place at night over the weekends. Wiggenhall Road will be closed in both directions, including at the Lammas Road junction, from 8pm until 6am on Sat 12 and Sun 13, and Sat 19 and Sun 20 March. Local diversions will be in place.
