Watford Borough Council has installed CCTV cameras through the Town Hall subway to protect residents and visitors to the town
Watford has seen around a 10% reduction in crime where CCTV cameras have been installed in similar areas. As well as acting as a deterrent, the images recorded have been used by the police to take action against crimes like vandalism, anti-social behaviour and theft.
The CCTV is monitored 24/7 from the council’s town centre control room.
Watford’s Elected Mayor, Baroness Dorothy Thornhill said: “It is so important that our residents and visitors not only feel safe but they are safe. This CCTV will ensure that the police can take action where crime is committed.”
