Green spaces in Watford

Cabinet on 8 February will discuss the progress of the council’s green spaces strategy.

Published: Monday, 8th February 2016

Since 2013, the council’s green spaces strategy has delivered over £4.5 million of improvements to eight parks, 26 play areas, both our cemeteries and introduced eleven adult gyms across the town.  Visitors to Oxhey Park, Callowland Rec, Waterfields Rec, King George V Playing Fields, Colne River Park, Riverside Rec, Watford Heath and Leavesden Green will certainly have noted the difference.

For 2016, the council will aim to achieve a further two prestigious Green Flags to add to the six already held. Ten allotment sites saw over £810k worth of improvements; and the council, with its partner Veolia, will be encouraging more sites to manage themselves.

Other areas the council will be focusing on include developing multi-activity sports hubs across the town, continuing to develop volunteering opportunities and looking at how to use green spaces to improve the health and wellbeing of our residents.
