Official Statement from Chairman of the Council, Cllr Amanda Grimston...

It is with great sadness that we received the news from Buckingham Palace that Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II passed away peacefully at Balmoral.  On behalf of the town and Watford Borough Council, I would like to offer our sincere condolences to His Majesty, King Charles III, and the Royal family, at this very sad time.

Queen Elizabeth II was devoted to serving this country and the Commonwealth, and her sense of duty to her people across the globe was unfailing during her 70 years on the throne.  Throughout her reign, she demonstrated unwavering commitment to the life of service she committed to at just 25 years of age when she came to the throne.  Her wisdom and compassion have guided this country for over seven decades and her outstanding dignity and sound judgement have been recognised and appreciated by so many across the world.  She has inspired us and made us proud.

In the history of our country, no other queen or king has served as long or as steadfastly and we unite in mourning the passing of a truly remarkable monarch.

I join with the whole of Watford in sending our new King best wishes for a long and successful reign.

God save the King
