Watford Borough Council are opening a public consultation on changes to the Environmental Health and Licensing Compliance Policy from 12 July 2021 to the 23 August 2021.

The policy, which is to be renamed the Community Protection Compliance Policy 2021-2026, provides a course for the council’s actions when dealing with various regulatory and compliance issues, including how the council investigates and prosecutes people or businesses who are not complying with the law.

Some of the key changes to the updated policy include:

  • Changes to which government departments are responsible for which issues
  • Updating corporate objectives
  • More detail on the use of Community Protection Warnings or Notices
  • The inclusion of further detail on the Council’s procedural safeguards
  • Extra information on the additional measures available under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014
  • Details on the approach of officers to licensing offences, notably taxi or private hire licensing offences.

You can find the draft version of the policy here: www.watford.gov.uk/compliance-policy. Watford Borough Council is asking for feedback of all types from businesses, residents and visitors to Watford, plus any other interested parties. If you need information in another language or want to send feedback on the policy, email licensing@watford.gov.uk or write to the following address:
