Voter ID Pilot
Watford has agreed to take part in a pilot scheme, run by the Cabinet Office, that will mean voters within the borough will need to show ID before they can vote on 3 May 2018.
Voters in the Watford Borough area will be required to show their poll card before they can vote in the Watford Mayoral Election and Watford Borough Ward Elections.
Everyone voting at a Watford polling station at this year’s elections must bring their poll card with them in order to vote. Poll cards will be delivered from 23 March 2018 to electors within the Borough. Keep it safe and bring it with you when you go to vote on 3 May 2018.
What happens if I don't have my poll card?
If you do not have your poll card you will be able to vote if you have one of the following with you:
- Valid British, European or Commonwealth passport
- UK or EU photo-card driving licence (full or provisional)
- Valid credit or debit card
- Biometric Residence Permit
- EEA Identity Card
- Northern Ireland Electoral Identity Card
What happens if I lose my poll card?
If you have misplaced or not received your poll card by 1 April 2018 and do not have any of the above forms of ID, contact Watford Borough Council on 01923 278369 or email email@example.com.
Why is there a voter ID pilot?
The pilots are being conducted to identify the exact impact of voter ID, including its cost, before it is introduced nationally. All the additional costs for conducting the pilot are being fully funded by the Cabinet Office.
Joining Watford are Bromley, Gosport and Woking who have volunteered to take part in various pilots scheduled for the May 2018 local elections, which will require voters to similarly produce forms of ID before being issued with a ballot paper.
