Chairman of the Council

About the chairman

The Chairman of the Council for 2023 / 2024 is Councillor Simon Feldman who represents Stanborough Ward.

Simon grew up in Harrow and was a regular visitor to Watford throughout his younger years for days out, visits to Cassiobury Park and the Harlequin Shopping Centre. He has worked for London Underground since 16, starting as an apprentice signaller on the Metropolitan Line and now as Service Controller across multiple lines. Simon moved to Watford in 2014 and it quickly became his home, setting up an events business following in his love of music and being a DJ spending time as presenter on Watford’s Vibe FM.

The community spirit in Watford led him into volunteering work at New Hope, which showed him how much people in Watford care and want to help each other. With a drive to become more involved in the town he became a councillor in 2021 and has ever since then enjoyed all the volunteering, events and work the role involves. He now lives with his fiancée Jenny and their rescue dog Liquorice with walking around the local parks, long hikes and travel blogging being some of their favourite things in their spare time.

His chosen charity for the year is Hertfordshire Mind who provide mental health support for hundreds of people across Watford and Hertfordshire and are ever more in demand now than ever. With a theme of being a Mental Health friendly town that supports and helps no matter what the challenges or conditions you are faced with he will be pushing for increased mental health awareness as well as raising vital funds for Hertfordshire Mind to provide support for those in need.

Chairman Simon Feldman says,

After going through two mental health breakdowns in my own life I know how hard it is to get up again, find the support you need and the challenges faced in getting help when you need it. With the fallout from Covid 19 and the cost of living crisis, more and more people are facing challenges every day that can become overwhelming and all seem too much. Access to help can be a hurdle in itself but there is light at the end of the tunnel and I want us as a town to support those in need and be there for each other.

Simon will be carrying out fundraising events throughout the year including bike rides, walks and the yearly Santa collection. He wants any local businesses or groups that want to talk about mental health, get involved help with fundraising to contact him.
