A £2m improvement scheme for Watford High Street
The works - scheduled to run from 8 January to the end of October 2018 - will improve the look and feel of our High Street. They will make our town centre more attractive and easy to get around for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as reducing noise and pollution. The works will be finished in time for the opening of the new intu extension.
Improvements are being made made to two stretches of the High Street. The first stretch is the area between Clarendon Road and Market Street, running from January to the end of August. The second is between 102 High Street (outside Cafe Nero) and Market Street, running from 28 August to the end of October 2018.
The work is being carried out on behalf of Watford Borough Council and Hertfordshire County Council by Murrill Construction Ltd.
The High Street from Clarendon Road to Market Street will reopen on 28 August. Buses will start coming back through this part of the High Street but no unauthorised vehicles will. So you will notice a huge drop in traffic, making it safer and cleaner. The second stretch of the High Street from King Street to Market Street will be closed to vehicles from 28 August to the end of October 2018. Both pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to use the High Street during this time.
