Blue Badges

Frequently asked questions

Are there designated disabled bays in the High Street?

Yes, there are a limited number of disabled bays. These are opposite Primark and Marks and Spencer (accessible via the junction with King Street) and outside The Moon Under Water (accessible via the junction with Clarendon Road). Please check the signage before leaving your vehicle as some bays are only designated for disabled badge holders between certain times.

Can I use the badge whilst running errands for the badge holder?

No, the Blue Badge holder must be present at all times the badge is being used. If you use the badge without the badge holder you risk prosecution and a fine of up to £1,000.

My Blue Badge recently expired. I have applied to Hertfordshire County Council for a new one but I haven't received it yet. Will it be ok to use my old badge until I receive the new one?

No, any vehicles parked in restricted areas or disabled bays without displaying a valid Blue Badge will be liable to receive a Penalty Charge Notice. You are advised to renew your badge in good time so that it arrives before your current badge expires. This process can take up to eight weeks so apply as early as you can!

Can I park in car parks free of charge?

Although all our car parks have designated disabled bays, all Blue Badge holders must ensure that they pay the full tariff payable and, if necessary, clearly display a valid pay and display ticket in the windscreen of the vehicle. Failure to do so will result in the service of a Penalty Charge Notice.
