Under national rules in 1991, all homes were put into one of eight bands based on their estimated value. Your council tax bill, tells you which band you are in and the amount of tax you have to pay.
There is an overall increase in the council tax bill for 2016/17. This is because Hertfordshire County Council has increased its share by 3.99 per cent.
For the seventh year, Watford Borough Council has frozen its part of the council tax bill. Watford Council keeps just 15.8 pence of every £1 it collects.
The property band is determined by the Valuation Office Agency (VOA). If you think that your council tax band is wrong, you can ask the VOA to check it. If it is wrong they will put it right and inform us so that we can update your council tax bill.
You can contact the VOA on 0300 0501 501, Monday to Friday, 08:30am to 5pm.
