Taxi rank provision

There are nine taxi ranks within Watford where passengers can hire taxis.

Taxi rank

Taxi ranks are are situated on Clarendon Road, Albert Road South, New Street, Lower High Street, High Street Station, Watford Junction Station and The Harebreaks car park.  Two ranks operate at night, at Rickmansworth Road (junction with The Parade) between 8pm and 6am and in High Street (outside Barclays Bank) between 5 pm and 5 am.

The Albert Road South and Rickmansworth Road ranks have taxi marshals working from 9 pm to 4 am on Friday and Saturday nights, and most Bank Holiday Monday nights.  Marshals work to ensure passengers queue in an orderly manner.

The rank on Clarendon Road can hold up to a maximum of twelve cars, Albert Road South (4) , New Street (6), Lower High Street (2), Watford Junction Station (13), Rickmansworth Road (12), High Street Station (2), Barclays Bank (4) and Harebreaks car park (2).

Feeder ranks - where taxis can wait until space is available on a rank - operate in the Leisure Centre - Central car park whenever taxi marshals are employed, and in George Street.

Saloon vehicle type hackney carriages are licensed to carry up to four passengers. London Style vehicles are designed to carry up to five passengers and so are licensed to carry this number.

Hackney carriage drivers must use their taximeter set to the Council's tariff when starting a journey anywhere in the Borough, unless the passenger agrees another fare before the journey starts.  If the meter is used, the fare shown is the maximum that can be charged, and drivers can face criminal penalties for over-charging.
