Taxi fare setting
The council sets hackney carriage fares for journeys that take place entirely within the town boundary.
A copy of the tariff of fares should be displayed within the vehicle. A copy can also be found in the related links section below.
For any journey within the town boundary drivers must use the taximeter fitted to the vehicle to calculate the fare. The amount shown on the meter is the maximum fare that can be charged.
The meter will show 0000 (zero) when you enter the vehicle and the initial fare will show when the vehicle moves.
There will be no charge for assistance dogs for the disabled or the carriage of any other aid such as wheelchairs.
If your journey involves travelling outside the boundary of the town, the driver is not required to use the meter, however the fare should be negotiated before the journey commences.
If this is the case the driver must tell you the fare to be paid and provided you do not request any change to the journey en route this is the fare you should pay.
