Disabled people - bus passes

You may apply for a disabled persons free bus permit if you permanently reside in Watford and meet one of the following criteria.

  1. blind or partially sighted
  2. profoundly or severely deaf, without natural speech
  3. severe walking difficulties
  4. driving licence refusal due to a medical condition (except in the case of drugs or alcohol misuse
  5. severe mental health problems
  6. severe learning difficulties from birth
  7. if you do not have arms or has long term loss of use of both arms

In order to receive your bus permit, please complete the application form which is available to download in the Related pages section at the bottom of this page. You can also get a copy from the Customer Service Centre at the Town Hall or by calling tel: 01923 226400.

The completed application form must be returned to us along with the following items:

  • a recent passport size photograph
  • proof of current permanent residency i.e. a utility bill or council tax bill
  • proof of disability under which you are applying (please see below for suggested documents)

The following documentation may help in your assessment for a disabled permit:

  • a current letter from the DWP stating stating that you receive Disability Living Allowance at a high rate
  • Herts County Council Sensory Disability card indicating either blind, partially sighted or profoundly deaf
  • written communication regarding your disability
  • contact details of your mental health care worker
  • current hearing test report indicating levels of hearing
  • Certificate of visual impairment (or BD8)

We are unable to contact your GP for medical details. However, should you be unable to provide sufficient details of your medical condition, we are able to offer a medical assessment.
