Watford has a thriving sporting community, providing a broad range of activities, opportunities and pastimes. There are many venues throughout town for indoor and outdoor sport including leisure centres, an athletic track and, bowling greens, football pitches and more.
Where can I find information on sports pitches?
There are a large number of sports pitches available for hire to play football and cricket at locations throughout the area. For advice on locations and their suitability for your needs please contact us on tel: 01923 278333. Most of the pitches we offer for hire have changing facilities.
How can I hire a football or cricket pitch?

How can I hire a tennis court?
Tennis courts are available at various locations througout the borough, on a first come, first served basis, free of charge.
How can I pay for the hire of a sports pitch?
Once you have chosen and booked the pitch you wish to play on, you will be invoiced for the pitch hire before the event. You will then be able to pay by cheque or postal order, or payment can be taken over the phone direct to our Finance team, quoting the details on your invoice. How can I check if the weather has affected a booked game?
All pitches are inspected on both Saturday morning and Sunday morning. If you have any concerns about the status of the pitch you have booked due to inclement weather, please check that the pitch is still in a playable condition. Please contact us on the morning of the game after 9am on tel: 01923 672283, which will carry a recorded message regarding the state of the pitches.
This recorded message covers all Watford Borough Council pitches, regardless of whether there is a groundsman on site.
