Watford Borough CouncilSports - developmentWatford Borough Council's Sports Development team promotes opportunities in a number of sports and physical activities. Coaches are employed to deliver activity programmes in sports including, athletics, basketball, cricket, football, gymnastics, rugby, swimming and tennis. This includes activity in schools, local sports clubs and community facilities. The Sports Development team also provides coaching programmes for young people during the school holidays. Working with the Herts Sports Partnership, the team can help people work towards qualifications. We get involved with various annual events that take place including the Hertfordshire Youth Games and a district cricket tournament. We are partners in various schemes including the Pursuit to Excellence scheme, which provides free access to leisure facilities for county level athletes aged under 18. The team are also responsible for delivering the MAAC project. This is a 3 year, Sport England funded project that provides equality of opportunities for families from Black and Minority Ethnic groups to access a range of physical activities and enhance their quality of life. The team is a source of information on sports-related issues in the town; you may be new to the area and want to join a local cricket club, you may be a qualified coach and want to work in the community, you may want to find a football coaching course for your child or you might be thinking about setting up your own sports class or club. If it's a question of sport, please contact us using the email address at the bottom of the page.
