Watford Borough CouncilParks and open spaces - maintenanceThe Council undertakes routine cutting of grass in urban areas together with tree and hedge pruning and shrub and rose bed maintenance. Grass areas which are the responsibility of the Council are cut at regularly spaced intervals between the second week in March and the third week in November. However, continued bad weather can delay cutting and extended dry weather may make cutting unnecessary. Parks and open spaces are cut by the Council's own staff: a contractor employed by the Council carries out all grass cutting on grass verges, housing estates and sheltered housing. Council maintained shrub and rose beds are pruned between October and March, either by 50% every year, or by 100% every two years. Some shrubs are cut at other times during the year, as they may create a sightline problem for traffic, or may overgrow a footpath. Weeds in shrub beds are sprayed as necessary between March and October, and litter picking is carried out as and when required. Watford Borough Council maintains street trees and trees in parks and open spaces. If you have a query regarding street or parkland trees, please contact the Arboricultural Officer. If you are dissatisfied with the service in any area or want further advice, please contact us. |
