Assisted refuse collection
If you are elderly, infirm or disabled and do not have any family members or friends who can help you to put out wheelie bins and/recycling boxes, you can apply for an assisted collection.
This means that the collection staff will be able to collect your waste and recycling from a location at your property that is more suitable for your situation, as normally your bins and boxes must be placed at the front boundary of your property for collection.
Assisted collection forms can be downloaded from the bottom of this page or can be obtained from the Customer Service Centre at the Town Hall.
Frequently asked questions about the scheme:
I am elderly, live on my own, and am worried about moving my bins and boxes. Can I get an assisted collection?
Yes, simply complete the assisted collection form and return to Environmental Services, Wiggenhall Depot, Wiggenhall Road, Watford WD18 0FB or use the email address at the bottom of the page.
Do I have to pay more to get an assisted collection?
No, this extra service is free of charge to residents who need it.
I am disabled, but do not live alone, and have family members who can place the bins/boxes at the boundary of my house for collection. Can I get an assisted collection?
We prefer to use the scheme for residents who do not have any family or friends to help them, which means that we can devote our resources to those residents who need the service most.
Where can I have my bin/boxes picked up from?
From a location within your property where they are accessible and visible to the collection crews. This may be directly outside your front door, or by a side door. However, side gates MUST be left unlocked on the collection day to allow the crews to gain access to the bins/boxes.
I live alone, and recently had an accident, meaning that for a short length of time I will not be able to move the bins/boxes. Can I get an assisted collection while I am incapacitated?
Yes, as you qualify under the category of 'temporary injury'. However, this will be reviewed when appropriate to your particular injury.
The scheme covers all the different services: domestic waste, recycling and garden waste.
