Planning - environmental policies
Watford Borough Council has teamed up with the nine other local authorities and Hertfordshire County Council to produce a guide for sustainable development in Hertfordshire.
Building Futures Guide
The guide was launched in July 2007 and is a web-based which allows it to be updated more easily to take account of changes in legislation and technology.
The guide aims to help planners and developers design and construct buildings in Hertfordshire utilising best practice sustainable approaches and technologies. The government is setting challenging targets for the development industry so it can meet its climate change targets.
The guide aims to provide practical advice on how to produce more sustainable development. It is a useful pre-application tool for planning applications of all scales.
The guide is modular with each module focussing on a particular topic such as water or energy and provides key facts, solutions and case studies where possible within Hertfordshire. It also provides a list of sources for those requiring more technical information. The information provided is relevant to all scales of development from a household extension to large residential schemes.
