Council tax - renewal

The maximum period that benefit can be paid for is 60 weeks.

If you are working or have circumstances that are likely to change your benefit period will be shorter normally 26-30 weeks. The date that your current claim is due to end is shown on the letter telling you how much benefit you will receive.

If you are 60 or over, benefit can be awarded for a maximum of 5 years. This is the case for all claims from April 2004.

However, the Council will take any step it considers necessary to make sure that the correct amount of benefit is being paid.

A benefit renewal invitation claim form will be sent to you about eight weeks before your claim is due for renewal. Please return the form as soon as possible before your benefit payments are due to end.
