Council tax - appeals
If you disagree with a decision about your council tax benefit, you have the right to appeal but there are time limits. You should put any appeal in writing, and keep copies of your letters.
If you disagree with the decision the council has made you can:
- Ask for an explanation - you can either do this verbally or in writing
- Ask for the decision to be reviewed - the Council will look at your claim again
- Appeal to an independent tribunal - they will then look at the circumstances and make a decision
You must do this within one month of the date on the decision letter not the date you contact the office. You can get advice from a solicitor or contact the Citizens Advice Bureau on tel: 01923 234949.
For more information on the appeal process please contact Revenues and Benefits, using the contact email address or telephone: 01923 226400.
