Housing
To find out which council you need to contact with regard to housing, please visit 'which district or borough council covers me?'.
Following the transfer of its stock to the Watford Community Housing Trust, Watford Borough Council no longer has any council housing, however, it still runs a housing register.
Through the housing register applicants can be nominated to properties with registered social landlords (RSLs), otherwise known as housing associations. Watford Borough Council uses Choice Based Lettings (CBL) to advertise any available properties. Watford is part of a sub-regional Choice Based Lettings consortium called Herts Choice Homes.
Unfortunately, the demand for housing is far greater than supply. This means the majority of people on the housing register will never be nominated to a housing association property and should consider other housing options.
Our website contains information on how to apply for housing, how applications are prioritised and how Choice Based Lettings works.
There is also information on other housing options and where you can get advice and assistance if you are having housing difficulties or facing homelessness.
Our site also contains information on our housing strategy plans including our Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) strategy.
