Sustainability

Watford Borough Council is working to deliver sustainable development for the town - this means recognising the social and economic needs of everyone yet protecting the environment and conserving resources for the future.

Sustainability

The four aims of our focus on sustainability are:

social progress which recognises the needs of everyone

Our planning team ensures that any planning applications or development proposals we receive are sustainable and help deliver thriving communities and affordable homes.

effective protection of the environment

We can all help with this by making sure we reduce, reuse and recycle. We offer a full kerbside recycling service to all our residents, along with 9 recycling sites and 2 household waste recycling centres in the town. See links to the left for information on pollution control.

the prudent use of natural resources

We work with our partners to offer great energy saving deals to our residents, and can offer advice to residents and businesses about energy efficiency and Fair Trade.  We are working on our Carbon Management Strategy and are putting together a Climate Change Strategy document.

the maintenance of high and stable levels of economic growth and employment

We have an Economic Development Officer who is working with partner organisations to support and encourage a thriving local economy.
