Refuse - litter - removal
The street cleansing service will:
- Clean all areas to the relevant standards
- Cleanse roads, the town centre, footpaths and car parks using litter pickers and sweepers
- Investigate instances of fly tipping (illegally dumped articles) and where possible take legal action against offenders
- Where possible, remove fly tips within 1 working day of notification. However, very large accumulations of fly tipping that require investigation by a Waste Enforcement Officer may take longer.
- Remove fallen leaves from known problem areas during autumn and winter
- Remove dog fouling, clean and empty dog bins on a regular basis
- Provide and maintain street litter bins, emptying them before they become full
- Respond to emergencies e.g. diesel/oil spillages, traffic accident debris etc.
- Remove fly posting
- Remove graffiti from Council/private property - racist/offensive within 1 working day; other on a rolling programme of works
- Support locality groups within Watford and help with your locally organised clean-ups
- Provide community clean up kits
- Remove abandoned vehicles
How can you help?
- If you are experiencing cleansing problems in your area please let us know. We want you to report your concerns to us
- If you see any fly tipping please let us know that too. Please try and take the number of any vehicle involved. This could help us trace the offender
- Please dispose of your litter, rubbish and dog fouling responsibly, using the facilities provided
- If there is no litter bin in the area, please take your litter home with you
- Wrap up your chewing gum and put it in a bin or take it home
- Please do not "fly post" - it's untidy and illegal
- Please do not park where you want us to clean
- Set a good example to others, particularly children; show and teach them good habits for life; please use all the facilities available to you and take the initiative yourself
- Help us to help you keep Watford tidy.
