Do I need planning permission?
Planning permission is normally required for development - are you a resident or a business? There are certain types of development however, that do not require permission - this work is called permitted development.

In order to assist the planning application process, we now accept the submission of planning applications online in association with the Planning Portal. You can also download planning forms and guidance here
What is Building Control?
The Building Control team help you comply with Building Regulations and associated legislation. They offer advice, technical support and site inspections for all types of building work.
Where can I look at an application?
Search for all planning applications either validated or decided by Watford Borough Council in any given week. Copies of current applications are available to view in our Customer Service Centre.
How do I make a comment?
You make make comments via the online planning facility, PublicAccess. by email to developmentcontrol@watford.gov.uk or in writing to Development Control, Watford Borough Council, Town Hall, Watford. WD17 3EX.
Planning Aid
Planning Aid provides free, independent and professional help, advice and support on planning issues to people and communities who cannot afford to hire a planning consultant. Planning Aid complements the work of local authorities but is wholly independent of them. Please visit the Planning Aid website for more information or ring the helpline on 0870 850 9801.

How do I find out if my property is a listed building or in a conservation area?
Check our online planning system. Follow the step by step instructions to search for your property and find out. If your property is in a conservation area or is a listed building, this will be displayed underneath the heading "constraint type".
