Watford has a thriving sporting community, and Watford Borough Council provides many venues throughout town for indoor and outdoor sport including our two leisure centres, an athletic track, bowling greens, football pitches and more.

Where can I find information on sports pitches? There are a large number of sports pitches available for hire to play football and cricket. For advice on locations and their suitability please contact us on tel: 01923 278333.  Most of the pitches we offer for hire have changing facilities.

How can I hire a tennis court? Tennis courts are available at various locations around the town, on a first come, first served basis, free of charge.

How can I pay for the hire of a sports pitch? Once you have chosen and booked the pitch, you will be invoiced for the pitch hire before the event. You can pay by cheque or postal order, or payment can be taken over the phone, quoting the details on your invoice. You are advised not to send cash through the post. How can I check if the weather has affected a booked game? Pitches are inspected on Saturday morning and Sunday morning.  If you have any concerns about the pitch you have booked due to inclement weather, please contact us on the morning of the game after 9am on tel: 01923 672283, which will carry a recorded message regarding the state of the pitches.  This recorded message covers all Watford Borough Council pitches, regardless of whether there is a groundsman on site.
