Sports - fishing information
The Grand Union Canal which runs through Cassiobury Park offers fishing all year round.
Fishing on the canal is managed by the local fishing club, Watford Piscators: for more information, please visit Watford Piscators website. Day tickets are available.
You can fish for free in the river on all Watford Borough Council land, such as Cassiobury Park, Oxhey Park and the Lairage Land, but we do ask people not to fish in the Cassiobury Park nature reserve. We also operate the close season on the rivers: for 2011, this means no fishing with a rod between 15 March and 15 June.
You will need a rod licence: these can be bought from selected post office branches, or call the Post Office on 0844 800 5386. Lines are open daily from 8.30am to 8pm March to September, and 8.30am to 6pm October to February. Alternatively, you can buy your rod licence direct from the Environment Agency website.
Watford Borough Council is working with Watford Piscators to produce a fishing strategy for Watford: again, please contact us for more information.
