Because a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) is not always a sufficient deterrent to prevent 'illegal' parking, the Council, in cases where the illegally parked vehicle is taking up much needed space, can remove the vehicle to our Vehicle Pound. We also use the same methods against persistent offenders who flout the law and do not pay for their PCN's.

Vehicle Removals

If you have 3 or more unpaid parking penalties, your vehicle may be targeted for removal and you will have to pay for it to be released.

The charge will be £105 for the removal, £12 per day for storage and you will also have to pay the penalty charge which will have been issued prior to your vehicle being removed.

You will also be asked how you intend to make payment for the other outstanding penalties, noting that if you live in a controlled parking zone, you will not be able to renew your residents parking permit, unless they have been settled.

To check if your vehicle has been removed by the Council, please telephone the Parking Shop on tel: 01908 223507 between 8am and 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday.

If it has been removed for this reason, the staff at the Parking Shop will explain how to get it back. You will have to provide proof of ownership that contains your current address and also proof of residency.

If you believe that you were not parked illegally, you will still have to pay the charges but you can make a formal challenge afterwards.

You will be given a form on which to make your representation and this must be submitted to the Parking Shop within 28 days of the date that you claimed the vehicle.

If you do not claim your vehicle within 24 hours of it being removed, a storage charge of £12 will be added each day.

If you do not claim your vehicle promptly, the Council will take steps to dispose of your vehicle. This does not mean that the charges are waived and the Council may still take action to recover any unpaid penalties, removal fees and storage charges.
