equal opportunities

Watford is a multi-racial area and we would like to see this reflected in our workforce. We work within the guidelines of the Disability Discrimination Act by being committed to improving opportunities for people with disabilities. As a "Two-Tick" organisation we value the contribution of all individuals and communities.

Recruitment and selection process

Watford Borough Council values diversity which is reflected in our recruitment and selection process. We encourage applications from all sectors of the community particulary those from minority groups. We ensure that individuals are selected, promoted and treated on the basis of their relevant abilities and merits.

The job description and person specification will define the qualifications, experience and other skills required in the post, and will only include those factors which are necessary and justifiable.

The council is committed to the on-going development of its employees and to support this offers a wide range of training opportunities including courses, workshops, seminars, conferences and management development programmes.

We have a flexible working hours scheme for a large proportion of staff which allows for flexibility at the beginning, middle and end of the working day. In addition the council is open to job sharing and part time work.

The employment of people with disabilities

Applicants with disabilities will be given full and fair consideration for all types of vacancies. For staff with particular needs in terms of access, workplace layout or equipment, the council will make all the reasonable adjustments necessary.
