Council tax
Watford Borough Council is the ‘billing authority.’ This means we collect council tax for Hertfordshire County Council, Hertfordshire Police Authority as well as for ourselves.
The council also collects National Non-Domestic Rates (NNDR) from Watford businesses which this year (2013/14) will be around £63 million. From 1 April 2013, the council may be able to retain some of the increase in NNDR income (for example if we attract more businesses to the Borough), although most will still go to a central government pool which is distributed across the country.
For 2013/14 out of every pound you pay in council tax - just 16p goes to Watford Borough Council, 10p goes to Hertfordshire Police and 74p goes to Hertfordshire County Council. You can download the 2012/2013 domestic and business rate booklets at the bottom of this page.
