Council tax
Watford Borough Council is the ‘billing authority.’ This means we collect council tax for Hertfordshire County Council, Hertfordshire Police Authority as well as for ourselves.
The council also collects National Non-Domestic Rates (NNDR) from Watford businesses which this year (2010/11) will be around £65 million. This money goes to a central government pool. The money is then redistributed to councils across the country on the basis of their population.
For 2010/2011 out of every pound you pay in council tax - just 16p goes to Watford Borough Council, 10p goes to Hertfordshire Police and 74p goes to Hertfordshire County Council.
