Composting

Composting is an inexpensive, natural process that transforms your kitchen and garden waste into a valuable and nutrient rich food for your garden.

All your vegetable and fruit peelings, teabags, paper towels, eggshells can just be thrown straight into a bowl or kitchen caddy, and when it's full, empty into your compost bin along with your garden waste.

Even for households that are already composting, new research has found that almost half of the food waste in their rubbish bins could have been put in the compost bin.

Did you know, composting at home for just one year can save global warming gases equivalent to all the CO2 your kettle produces annually, or your washing machine produces in three months?

The Recycle Now Home Composting Campaign is a government funded scheme to encourage residents to compost garden and kitchen waste to reduce the amount of organic waste sent to landfill.

Composters are available in two sizes:

  • 220 litre bin - £15 (get a second for £7.50)
  • 330 litre bin - £18 (get a second for £9)

You can order online at www.getcomposting.com or tel: 0844 571 4444 (quoting ref HERT03L).
