Crime prevention - home security assessment

West Herts Against Crime is a charity group working with Watford Borough Council and the Safer Watford Partnership to offer free home safety advice.

home security

Last year, 2022 homes in Watford benefited from a WHAC visit.  Of these, 993 residents were aged over 60.

Technicians are trained to carry out free home security checks.  Where needed, they will then fit security devices such as window and door locks, spyholes, bolts and door chains free for the over 60's, disabled, lone parents, repeat victims of burglary and victims of domestic violence and hate crime.

The technicians also carry out risk assessments of fire safety and escape plans.  They will check that properties have at least one smoke detector per floor which is the recommended minimum and install and replace as necessary.
