Street naming and numbering register

The address of a property is an important issue. Organisations, postal and emergency services and the general public need an efficient means of locating and referencing properties.

How do I apply?

Here we offer advice for developers and residents, on what to do if you would like to alter or introduce a street name or address.

Watford Borough Council is the street naming and numbering authority for the area. It carries out these functions under the provisions of the Public Health Act 1925 sections 17-19.

If you wish to name or number new developments or change the name of an existing property, you will need to download and complete an application form and send it to us with a cheque for the appropriate fee made payable to Watford Borough Council.

Once your application has been approved, we will officially register the property on the address gazetteer and inform utility and emergency services, the Land Registry, Valuation Office and relevant council services.

Please contact the Local Land and Property Gazetteer Officer for more information using the email address at the bottom of the page or call us on tel: 01923 278458.
