Health and safety
Local Authorities and the Health and Safety Executive have a joint role in improving health and safety in businesses. The Health and Safety Executive look after health and safety in premises such as factories, schools and construction sites, whilst local authorities look after warehouses, catering premises, leisure facilities and shops.
Whilst we have an enforcement role, we offer advice and guidance too, so that businesses can take responsibility for the way in which they undertake their operations.
Health and Safety in the workplace is a wide subject, covering issues such as workplace transport, asbestos, manual handling, the safe use of equipment and electrical safety.
