Council tax benefit - new claim
Council tax benefit is a means tested benefit. This means when we work out your benefit, we take into account things like your income, savings and investments.
You can claim council tax benefit if you are on Income Support , Job Seekers Allowance, Employment Support Allowance or if you are on a low income (this includes people who are self employed).
You cannot claim council tax benefit if you or your partner have more than £16,000 in savings either individually or combined, unless you are in receipt of guaranteed pension credits.

Second adult rebate
You can claim second adult rebate if there are other people living in your home who are on a low income. You cannot claim second adult rebate if you are married or have a partner, please contact the council for more information using the email address below or calling us on tel: 01923 226400.
How do I claim?
If you make a claim for Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance or Employment Support Allowance, the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) will ask you at the time if you want to claim council tax benefit as well. They will then ask you for the information that is needed to make a claim. They will then send the form to us.
