Audentior Awards - recognition within the community

Release Date: 19 May 2011

Nominations are now open for Watford's Audentior Awards, which celebrate the achievements of community spirited residents and organisations.

Disabiilty Award Winner

The Audentior Awards, now in their eighth year, have seven categories, and a special award, to honour the outstanding dedication shown by individuals and organisations to the town. The one attribute that all nominees should share is the quality of their commitment, dedication, energy and effort in their particular field.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Dorothy Thornhill said: “Each year I never fail to be inspired by the remarkable residents and organisations that are nominated for the Audentior Awards.

“Watford is full of people who think nothing of giving up their time to help others. We fully understand the importance of recognising those who make our town a better place to live.

“If you believe that you know someone who would be worthy of a nomination in any of the categories, please put their name forward.”

The award categories are:

Mayor’s award
It takes a special somebody to change the tide and to deliver the impossible for the community. This unique individual makes Watford a better place to be. We are looking for an individual who has given a number of years dedication to their work, both paid and voluntary or a high profile individual leading change for the better in the town.

Chairman’s award for volunteer of the year
The Chairman of the council will present this award to an individual who uses their time and talents generously for the benefit of the community – no matter how big or small the cause.

Good neighbour award
An individual going the extra mile to help people around them. It may be someone helping an individual local to them. It could be someone who works for the good of local people in their area, for example long serving members of tenants and residents association committees and is known as a friend to turn to when they have a problem or are in need.

Charitable group award
The award for a group who have a life changing effect on those they care for and their families. A group who works for good of the community providing activities or services for others.

One Watford green business awards
Schools, public places, voluntary organisations and businesses all have a part to play in improving the quality of our environment. The award, championed by One Watford, the local strategic partnership, recognises those that have shown leadership and a positive approach to the reduction of the impact of business on the environment.

Young person or group of people award
An award for a young person or group of young people, up to the age of 25 years old, who have made a positive contribution to their community, have demonstrated exceptional volunteering and/or leadership commitment and are an example to their friends. They may have excelled academically, in sports or arts or have successfully faced personal challenges.

Disability access award
A shop, business or service provider who pays particular attention to meet the needs of disabled people and customers.

Special achievement awards
We may also make special achievement awards to an individual or group who make an outstanding contribution to the wellbeing or pride of the town such as an act of bravery, sporting achievement, innovation or leadership.
