New controlled parking zone goes live today
Release Date: 1 September 2010
A new controlled parking zone (CPZ), Zone V, goes live in the Cassiobury estate today, Wednesday 1 September, with motorists given one weeks grace to get used to the new restrictions.
Parking attendants will be issuing advisory slips to any motorist parked illegally up to and including Monday 6 September – from Tuesday 7 September, live penalty notices will be issued.
The CPZ is aimed at discouraging people from parking where it is unsafe and comes into force after local residents asked the council to put together proposals for dealing with inconsiderate commuter parking in the area. This was causing some residents difficulty entering or safely exiting their driveways because cars were parked too close and obscuring visibility. Some roads were also partially obstructed by parked cars.
Over the last year, the council has carried out extensive consultation with local residents and businesses to try and find the best solution to problem parking. The Cabinet approved a scheme, which resulted in part of the estate being included in the new CPZ earlier this year.
Councillor Iain Sharpe, cabinet member responsible for planning, said: “Controlled parking is always a controversial issue. You can never please 100% of residents but we are confident this scheme is the best solution for most people.”
The new zone will only operate Monday to Friday, from 1 September to 30 June, to take account of the needs of park users.
