Release Date: 1 September 2010

Watford Borough Council is supporting the national Heritage Open Days 2010 from Thursday 9 until Sunday 12 September, giving residents a chance to discover hidden architectural treasures across their town.

Library square

Heritage Open Days celebrate England’s fantastic architecture and culture by offering free access to properties that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission.

Free events and activities will take place on the four days at Holy Rood Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Church, Bedford Almshouses, The Peace Hospice, Watford Town Hall Chambers, Watford Museum, Watford Central Library and Beechen Grove Baptist Church.

Sarah Priestley, Heritage Officer at Watford Borough Council, said: “Last year, Watford’s Heritage Open Day events went really well and were very popular. We had lots of positive feedback from participants asking for more this year, and we were happy to oblige!”

As part of our heritage celebrations, a special Printing Showcase is planned for Saturday 11 September between 12 and 5pm in the town centre – all the family are welcome to join in with free fun activities including a printing workshop.
