First Contact - improving the well being of older people

Release Date: 27 August 2010

A new countywide initiative, undertaken by organisations from the Safer Watford partnership, has recently commenced in Watford, tasked with providing a better service to older people in the community who require extra support.

First Contact

First Contact is a new information, advice and support service in Hertfordshire. It enables older people to access a wide range of community activities and services in their local area.

Cate Hall, representing Safer Watford said: “This initiative aims to help older people in Watford to access a wide range of preventative services through a single meeting with a scheme representative.

“Representatives are volunteers and staff from a wide range of agencies including Herts Constabulary, Watford Community Housing Trust, Watford Borough Council, Herts Fire and Rescue, East of England Ambulance Service and West Herts Against Crime.”

Services that can be accessed via First Contact include fire safety advice, home repairs, adult care services, home heating advice, smoking cessation services, crime prevention and information on local groups and social clubs.

Representatives started calling on residents in the Holywell, Central and Woodside areas of Watford from 1 July.
