Let's recycle! Improved facilities in Watford

Release Date: 13 October 2008

Tolpits Lane recycling banks

Watford Borough Council is encouraging everyone in the town to recycle more in an effort to reduce waste and the pressure placed on traditional methods of waste disposal, such as landfill, that have a negative impact on the environment.

Councillor Derek Scudder, Member with responsibility for Environmental Services said: “Watford residents currently recycle around 44% of household waste, on average, however landfill sites in Hertfordshire will be completely full by 2010.

“We have improved the town’s recycling facilities by increasing the range of recyclable materials. Furthermore the accessibility of individual sites to wheelchair users has been greatly improved by fitting the banks with compartments that have a posting port at the correct height for wheelchair users.

“We have set ourselves the target of increasing the amount of household waste we recycle in the borough to 50% by 2012 and our refurbished recycling sites will help us to achieve this.”
