Green travel

We are committed to creating a town with a high quality environment. To achieve this, congestion needs to be reduced by encouraging less reliance on the car.

Our green travel initiatives

We want to encourage residents and local businesses to take pride in the town and to live and operate in a more sustainable way. It is our aim to demonstrate to other organisations in the town what can be achieved and to lead the way on green travel initiatives.

Green travel planning starts with our policy commitment. Our Green Travel Plan includes proposals for a wide range of practical measures to make it easier for everyone in the Council to meet the challenges of sustainable transport.

You can download our Green Travel Plan to view online or print out, by following the link at the bottom of the page. A concise 15 page document, the plan sets out a comprehensive programme of initiatives to encourage and support green travel. It covers an initial period of three years as we are due to undergo significant change during that period so the plan will need to be reviewed in early 2010.

Some of the things we have already implemented include the establishment of watfordjourneyshare.com a car and journey sharing partnership with eight other major employers in the town, the introduction of  interest free cycle and season ticket loans, a new improved staff bike pool, staff showers and lockers and pool vehicles.

We have also established new bus links in Partnership with Metroline; Route 346 which serves key points throughout Watford and allows local residents and staff to alight directly at the Town Hall, and the W30 which runs every fifteen minutes around the town serving, Watford Met, Watford Junction and Croxley Business Park.
