Grand Union Canal walks and map
The Grand Union Canal came into being in 1929 following the merger of several canal companies.
The canal through Hertfordshire forms a small part of the 145-mile route from London to Birmingham. Following the decline in commercial carrying, it now provides a wonderful resource for leisure. There are opportunities for walking, cycling, fishing and boating or just enjoying the favourite canalside pastime of gongoozling - simply watching the boats go by!
