About pop up galleries

Working with landlords across the town, the council temporarily takes over empty shop units and manages the space for local artists, who are able to display and sell their work for a small commission.

Please check back regularly for details of new galleries popping up, and get in touch if you own a shop and would like to get involved.

Creating pop up galleries is part of the work going on to improve the overall look and vitality of Watford’s shopping areas. This supports existing local retailers by encouraging more visitors to the area; it significantly improves the chances of letting the empty unit for the longer term, thereby helping out landlords and makes the area much nicer in general for residents and visitors.
