There are lots of activities and classes in the town aimed at our older residents. Please contact the centre or club below for dates and times, as these are subject to change. Unless stated otherwise, the contact numbers use the Watford area code – 01923.

50+ activities

Everyone Active leisure centres - there are a range of regular Forever Fit and Aqua Fit classes in the day and evening for residents aged over 50.

Community centre - lots of fantastic classes and clubs take place throughout the week aimed at the 50 plus age group including yoga, line dancing, keep fit, ball room dancing, bingo, lunch mat bowls, luncheon clubs, games and social groups.

Watford Museum - lots of fun, drop in activities take place at the Museum including a scrabble club and a school of drawing and painting. Regular art appreciation lectures, talks and workshops are also held throughout the year. 232297

Friends of groups - there are seven Friends of... groups working with Watford Borough Council to improve the open spaces of Watford. There are Friends of Alban Wood, Cherry Tree Allotments, Cassiobury Park, Harebreaks Wood, Garston Park, Oxhey Park and King George V Playing Fields.

They carry out practical conservation work. The groups are run informally, for fun and are a great way to make new friends. Visitors are always welcome. 278333

Green Gym - try out the BTCV Green Gym for a fun free work-out in the fresh air – every Tuesday and Thursday at various locations between 10am to 1pm.

All sessions are free and open to all adults regardless of age, experience or fitness levels. Come along for as long as you like, enjoy the outdoors and work at your own pace! Each session will provide a range of activities, and will include creating meadows, planting hedges, restoring the riverside path, constructing steps and building homes for otters. 278610

U3A - Watford’s University of the Third Age (U3A) is a very active and social group of retired and semi-retired people. They have monthly meetings and a range of study groups which take place every day of the week.

Multi-Cultural Community Centre - an excellent resource for local people, the MCC Centre run numerous luncheon clubs, women only Bollywood aerobics and pilates. 220136

Bowls clubs - there are numerous bowls clubs around the town which welcome new players.

Newton Price Centre - a friendly local, centre, Newton Price has a huge range of activities on offer including 50 plus gentle exercise class, yoga and language classes. 233439

Health Walks - free, led walks organised by the Countryside Management Service across Hertfordshire. Over 20 walks a week. 01727 848168

Spokes - join your local cycle club, Spokes, to take part in organised cycle rides around the borough and beyond, fun social events and lots of excellent benefits for members.

Watford Harriers - long standing club based at Woodside Stadium, the Harriers offer activities for seniors including training sessions and races. 897527 between 7 and 9pm

Watford Football Club - regular sporting activities for the over 60s – the Extra Time project - held at the football club  including Nordic walking, short mat bowls, Wii fitness and more. 496356
