Animal welfare - missing dogs
Environmental Services collects contained stray dogs and deals with missing dogs. We will collect dogs contained by the finder, or handed in to the police station.
This service is available from 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday on tel: 01923 226400. We also maintain a register of lost dogs.
We will endeavour to reunite lost dogs with their owners by looking at information on any microchip, collar or tag that may be present or referring to the lost dogs register.
If the dog cannot be reunited with its owner, we will take it to a kennel for up to 7 days. If the owner is not found within this period, the dog becomes the property of the council and fees will be charged, please see 'related pages' panel below for link to current fees and charges.
The concessionary rate applies to people receiving income support, invalidity benefit, job seeker's allowance, old age pension or unemployment benefit
To increase the chances of being reunited with your dog, should it go missing, please ensure:
- your dog always wears a collar and
- the tag contains daytime contact details and
- the contact details are kept up to date (for example if you move house or change your telephone number).
You could also consider micro-chipping your dog.
